Abstract:
July 2009 marks the three-year anniversary of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), Title I of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006. As reported in the February/ March 2009 issue of SLR , the SORNA and its final guidelines have generated resistance from some states, tribal jurisdictions, and national organizations. Cited concerns have included conflicts with state and federal constitutions, perceived federal meddling in state and tribal policy, fiscal viability, and unintended public safety consequences related to certain SORNA provisions. Keywords:
