Abstract:
Cases involving restraining orders from five states are summarized in this article. The case in Maine involved extending a protection order against a father for the children until the youngest reached the age of 18. In New York, a protection order against the plaintiff’s brother was extended to include her same-sex domestic partner. An Illinois case addressed the issue of whether a protection order could include the perpetrator’s entire family. A Washington state court upheld a protection order against an abusive ex-husband. But in Ohio, a protective order was reversed when the court ruled that threatened legal action did not meet the standard for issuance of a protection order. Keywords: Copp v.
