Abstract:

Courts are often inadequate in their response to elder abuse, partly because they do not understand the unique concerns involved. In this article, the author describes a program in California courts that has sought to address this issue. While providing an overview of different kinds of elder abuse, risk factors, and obstacles to law enforcement, the author describes programs and initiatives in California courts designed to protect vulnerable elders, and makes recommendations for future programs.
