Abstract: 

Jennifer Wheatley tells a harrowing tale of trauma and transformation stemming from being sexually assaulted by a stranger in 1988. In this article, she articulates from the victim’s perspective what it is like to go through a sexual assault examination followed by a lengthy police investigation tainted by incompetence and indifference, but which ended up with the capture of her rapist and her newfound ability to let go of the pain of the past.
