Abstract:

When an older battered woman leaves her partner, where is she to go? Housing for battered women, in general, is often in short supply. And this housing may not meet the physical needs of older women by not being able to provide wheelchair accessibility or a quiet and stable environment. Therefore, older women in abusive relationships may remain simply because they have no place else to go. This article describes obstacles for obtaining housing that older battered women may face and provides a list of possible types of housing options that are available.
