Abstract: 

There are few if any people with greater knowledge of and insight into the nuances of intimate partner violence than attorney Joan Zorza, now semi-retired after decades of teaching and writing about domestic violence and serving as a battered women’s attorney. In this piece, she adeptly condenses the findings and recommendations of a blue ribbon federal panel on the pervasive and serious dysfunctions within the family court system, where the discussion focused on whether battered women and protective mothers are losing custody to abusive fathers.
