Abstract:

Hannah Graf Evans and José Santos Woss’ examine the adverse impacts of family separation and the imprisonment of children and their families due to their immigration status. As the authors point out, due in part to current governmental directives, childhood trauma has dramatically increased in immigrant households, often resulting in detrimental affects and economic instability for the entire family. This piece argues for an end to changes in policies surrounding immigrants’ rights that have been causing such harmful outcomes and for the use of alternatives that will achieve safety and justice for immigrant children and their families.
