Abstract:

This article describes the primary focus of, and effective actions taken by, those who advocate for victims of sexual violence in the state of Vermont. Specifically, the leading organization, the Vermont Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, promotes the involvement of the criminal justice system in such cases in order to send the powerful message that sexual violence will not be tolerated in the state of Vermont. Author Karen Tronsgard-Scott summarizes the feedback provided by stakeholders as far as how well (or poorly) the criminal justice system meets the needs of victims of sexual violence who rely on that system for the provision of justice and safety from further victimization.
