Abstract:

A sad and shocking truth about mass incarceration in this country is that a significant proportion of the U.S. prison population consists of traumatized female victims of sexual violence. In this brief testament to the tragic childhoods and life histories of most if not all incarcerated women, author Katie Ford explains how the lives of these unfortunate victims progress, often starting with childhood abuse and/or sexual violation, followed by adolescent or adulthood sex work and/or drug crimes, and eventuating in imprisonment.
