Abstract:

The horrific impacts upon children who experience the homicide death of their mothers at the hands of a spouse or partner are brought into high relief by Eva Alisic’s exploration of this shocking phenomenon. In this article, she compares the findings from a sample of bereaved in the Netherlands with a similar sample from the U.S. Among the findings she notes in her discussion is the relative commonality of family homicides among the immigrant community, a finding that may be related to the lower socioeconomic status of immigrant families, which, in turn, is a risk factor for family violence.
