Abstract:

Police officers are implicated in domestic violence in two different ways—as part of the problem, and as part of the solution. While the quick actions of police officers can at times save the lives of domestic violence victims, there have been all too many officers of the law implicated in violent acts of domestic abuse, some of them resulting in fatalities. In this article, David Martin reports on the attempts made by various jurisdictions to prevent the perpetration of domestic violence by police offers and the policies that have been put in place to hold police-perpetrators to the highest standard of the law.
