Abstract:
This article defines what has become gold standard for judicial officers who issue civil protection orders. This involves a set of guidelines called the Common Ground, the core essential values and recommended practices for issuing and enforcing protective orders. Author Nancy Hart defines the eight core values—safety, autonomy, accessibility, competence, reliability, collaboration, culture and diversity, and community engagement—and provides examples of how each value is to be implemented according to the Common Ground. Keywords: The Burgundy Book; Common Ground; CPO Guide; collaborative multi-disciplinary approach
