Abstract:
It is generally well-known that the elderly are at relatively high risk of being the victims of scams, especially those involving finances. The message in this article shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who work with older populations, especially elderly veterans. Given that only veterans in certain narrow categories are allowed pension advisors through the V.A., they are susceptible to the machinations of those who provide such advice for profit. Here, veterans are apprised of ways to avoid being financially exploited by unscrupulous private advisors. Keywords: VA Aid and Attendance (A&A) benefits; annuities; Medicaid eligibility; Veteran Pension Poachers Prevention Act; unfair and deceptive practices; accredited advisors
