Abstract: 

According to a recent survey, 3.4 million people in the U.S. over the age of 18 were stalked in 2006. In this article, the author reports on the results of a significant recent study surveying a large number of stalking victims. Of these, approximately 10% feared being killed. More than a quarter of people reported that they had been stalked online, via unwanted emails and instant messaging. Other forms of electronic stalking were also common, including use of video or digital cameras, GPS technology and listening devices. Women, Native Americans, and people with lower incomes were more likely to be stalked. And stalkers committed many crimes against their victims, including identity theft and assault.
