Abstract: 

Internet use is nearly universal among youth. And it can become a vehicle that exposes youth to threat, with sex crimes being of particular concern. Unfortunately, these are difficult activities to track. This article describes the results of the National Online Victimization Study—a study that monitors Internet sex crimes against children. These types of crimes include attempted and completed sexual assault, transmitting illegal sexual material to minors for the purpose of soliciting them, and the production and distribution of child pornography. These crimes involve multiple law enforcement agencies that must coordinate their activities in order to protect children and prosecute sexual predators who use the Internet.
