Abstract:
Averil Andrews and Jenny Khavinson describe an array of strategies that have been used to arouse greater public and official concern at both national and international levels over the plague of domestic violence (DV) and its mishandling by authorities in this country. Among other approaches, they describe a lawsuit that was filed with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights against the U.S. for its violation of the human rights of DV victims, Jessica Lenahan, whose three children were murdered by their battering father, did just that, and she won. Keywords: Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women; due diligence; police accountability; Jessica Lenahan (Gonzales) v.
