Abstract:
Domestic violence is the subject of the film “It Ends With Us,” and the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover the movie is based on. Both book and film are highly controversial. They have been praised for their open, frank portrayal of intimate partner violence, and criticized for clinging to discredited romantic tropes and oversimplifying the dynamics and consequences of IPV. Even survivors, arguably the most important voices, are divided in their opinions. In this review, Maya Galicia-Canto provides a detailed synopsis of the film’s main action and presentation techniques, then surveys contrasting views of the film and book from a broad range of important and culturally influential sources. Keywords: Colleen Hoover; Justin Baldoni; Blake Lively; Post-Release Litigation; Critical Response to “It Ends with Us”
