Abstract:
Religiously observant victims of domestic abuse often turn to their faith leaders first when seeking help. Unfortunately, the counsel they receive may be uninformed, misinformed or, worse, malicious. Starting as an informal, grass-roots effort to support abuse survivors navigating the complexity of family court, “Called to Peace Ministries” has evolved to provide a Coordinated Community Response, including highly trained advocates, for survivors seeking support that is both evidence-based and faith-based.Keywords: Historical Role of the Faith Community; Faith Leaders Response to Victims; Called to Peace Ministries; Victim Advocacy Training
