Abstract:

Aggression is a frequent cause of hospitalization for youth and is commonly associated with the “disruptive behavior disorders”: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), conduct disorder (CD), and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) (Pappadopulos et al., in review). Despite the prevalent use of antipsychotics to treat aggression in children and adolescents in inpatient and day treatment settings, there is a dearth of research to support this practice. The Center for the Advancement of Children’s Mental Health (CACMH) at Columbia University has joined with the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS-OMH) and leading experts across the United States to address the current need for knowledge in this area.
