Abstract:

Despite the hundreds of millions of dollars of public funds expended each year on biomedical and socialpsychological research, observers among both the scientific and the lay communities have expressed dismay that clinical research findings are most often not applied to practice. For example, John Weisz and colleagues (1995) have noted that treatments that are efficacious within university settings often seem to fall short when one attempts to implement these interventions in the field. Similarly, other recent publications have identified the differences between efficacy and effectiveness research (Hoagwood et al., 1995; Weisz & Jensen, 1999).
