Abstract:

Given the many persons who set themselves up as so-called experts in the area of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), along with many proffered, supposedly sciencebased opinions, one can easily get confused about ADHD. Is it a real disorder, or simply a made-up problem by a society increasingly intolerant of normal childhood behaviors? If it truly is a disorder, what causes it? Can it be reliably diagnosed? What are its most effective treatments? How do they work, and are they safe? With so much information available, it is difficult to know which sources are trustworthy and which are not.
