Abstract:

Over the past decade, as evidence-based practices (EBPs) in mental health have become more prevalent, there has been a need to develop mechanisms for implementing these practices in real-world settings. To address this concern, a variety of organizations have developed that bridge the gap between science and practice. These organizations help identify and adapt best practice models or EBPs and then act as intermediaries between the treatment developer/evidence-base and the implementation of the practice by provider organizations. These organizations have been called “purveyor organizations” and/or “intermediary organizations” and have emerged at the local, state, and national levels. This article describes the Connecticut Center for Effective Practice (CCEP), an intermediary organization that for nearly 10 years has been helping to bridge the gap between research and practice within Connecticut’s statewide system of care.
