Abstract:

In 2001, Washington State’s Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration set out to create a cross-system framework for implementing evidence-based rehabilitation practices. The model ultimately adopted, the Integrated Treatment Model (ITM), incorporates best practices from the field matched to the setting in which the treatment is offered. The backbone of the treatment includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as the treatment during residential incarceration and Functional Family Parole (FFP; based on Functional Family Therapy; FFT) as the intervention for the youth and family upon the youth’s return to the community. This article briefly describes the rationale for selecting these treatments, the adaptations and implementation of the modalities to date, and future tasks to be accomplished by the administration to achieve full implementation with fidelity.
