Abstract:
For financial structures, there are generally no concrete measures to determine what constitutes good design, as there are in, for example, engineering and architecture. The lack of a concrete measure of structure is a result, in part, of the dominant role securities analysis has assumed in the development of financial theory. “Revenue curve analysis” seeks to address this problem by providing a framework within which the design of financial structures, particularly bond issues, can be evaluated. Financial consultant Laurence H. Wadler introduces the basic principles, goals, and tools of revenue curve analysis and considers its potential for better structuring decisions on the capacity of a revenue stream to support debt. Keywords: Revenue utility; opportunity cost index; refunding performance
