Abstract:

The CARES Act and other state and federal funding sources provided much-needed liquidity that kept many healthcare systems afloat during the pandemic. Now that many pandemic-era programs have expired, healthcare systems face compounding challenges—patient volumes have not returned to pre-pandemic levels, costs are at an all-time high, and labor shortages have impacted ability to deliver services. This panel discusses the current state of healthcare post-pandemic and potential long-term implications, and will offer strategies and solutions for navigating a path forward. Seth Brumby reports on municipal credit for Reorg Research. Megan Preusker is a bankruptcy and restructuring attorney at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. Matt Robbins is a Managing Director in Kaufman Hall’s Partnerships, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Treasury and Capital Markets practices. This article is based on a panel by the same title presented at the 2023 Annual Conference of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts held in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, May 16-19, 2023.
