Abstract:
U.S. sanctions and export control restrictions on trade with Russia result in a complex web of measures that limit dealings with hundreds of parties in Russia and constrain trade in particular with the Russian financial, energy, and defense sectors. In this article, the authors open with an introduction to the U.S. sanctions targeting persons, entities, and activities in Russia. They then provide further detail on property-blocking sanctions, Crimea sanctions, sectoral sanctions, secondary sanctions, CBW Act sanctions, and export controls. They close with discussions of recent developments, enforcement actions, and compliance recommendations. Keywords: Ukraine-Related Sanctions; Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (“SDN List”); Sanctions against Crimea; Debt and Equity Sanctions; Energy Sector Sanctions; CBW Act Sanctions; Export Controls
