Abstract: 

The globalization and consolidation of the financial services industry has made the fragmented U.S. financial regulatory system seem particularly antiquated, and often nonfunctional. Though it may be argued that a consolidated supervision system, such as that placed in the UK’s Financial Services Authority, would be more effective, this approach goes against a long history in the U.S., as well as facing resistance from many entrenched interests.
