GAO Recommends Longer Limitations Statute for Offshore, Raises Questions About QI Program

Abstract: 

In Tax Administration: Additional Time Needed to Complete Offshore Tax Evasion Examinations (GAO Offshore Report), the Government Accountability Office found that IRS exams involving offshore tax evasion take almost three times as long as other exams to develop and complete, and that the three-year statute of limitations on assessments was a significant constraint in the period of the study from 2003 through 2005.
