Abstract:

The author reviews recently published material addressing (1) the possible links between being a bully victim or perpetrator and suicidal ideation in adolescents; (2) the role parenting style—for example, too harsh or too permissive—may play in adolescent boys’ development of conduct disorder; (3) how understanding the contributing factors of depression during the transition from childhood into adulthood can help to identify specific behaviors that youth can modify to reduce their high risk for depression; and (4) how the type and length of a child welfare placement, if an adolescent is removed from home for a short- or long-term period, can contribute to the teen’s involvement with justice systems.
