Abstract:
Hudie Joyce Walker was freed in the first court victory under California’s new intimate partner (IP) statute. She served 16 years of her 19 year sentence for the second degree murder of her husband before finally convincing a court that her trial counsel’s failure to present evidence of intimate partner battering and its effects prejudiced her case.
