Abstract:
This article is based on the comments given by Lois Galgay Reckitt, who was one of four panelists speaking at the plenary on Women’s and Girl’s Use of Violence at the 15th Conference of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Denver, Colorado on July 24, 2012. Other speakers noted how the overwhelming majority of the violence used by women against their intimate partners is done in self-defense or defense of their children. Reckitt spoke of approaches that her program is using to recognize and counter the inappropriate ways that the criminal justice system employs to respond to women’s violence. Keywords: Rose Garrity; Evan Stark, “Coercive Control”; training curricula of bail commissioners
