Abstract:
DVR is dedicating this special issue (the first of two issues) to the challenge of addressing societal/systemic racism in the context of criminal justice reform. Articles in this issue provide a rebuttal to calls to “decriminalize domestic violence” (the idea of moving away from the use of the criminal justice system to hold domestic violence offenders accountable). This issue also emphasizes the voices of survivors based on our belief that their perspectives deserve an important role in the current debate about victim safety, offender accountability, and reforms to address the disparate impact of the criminal justice system on communities of color. The complete issue contains all of the articles listed in the table of contents above. Keywords: Moment of Truth; Domestic Violence, Policing, Criminal Justice Reform
