Abstract:
The following article is a recent interview conducted by Casey Gwinn, President and Co-Founder of the National Family Justice Center Alliance, with Dr. Oliver J. Williams, a distinguished national domestic violence advocate. Together, they explore the challenge of addressing societal and systemic racism in the criminal justice reform, specifically in the context of domestic violence. Dr. Oliver J. Williams is Executive Director, Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community (IDVAAC), at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN. He is also Professor, School of Social Work, at the University of Minnesota. In addition, he is Director of the Safe Return Initiative that addresses the issues of prisoner reentry and domestic violence.Keywords: Victim Expectations of Law Enforcement
