Abstract: 

This article addresses one aspect of domestic violence that is commonly misunderstood: why does the perpetrator of domestic violence often threaten to die by suicide? This question is addressed in the context of two stories below involving two different women—Sharon and Abha. Both women are victims of domestic violence who were abused, threatened, and controlled by their intimate partners. In the end, Sharon’s abuser Frank died by suicide and Abha’s husband, Rajat, threatened suicide.
