How Receptive Are Battered Women to Being Offered Voluntary Support Services?

Abstract:
The Women’s Center and Shelter Program of Pittsburgh attempted to offer supportive counseling to nearly 2,000 eligible women identified from civil and criminal court dockets; a surprisingly low number ended up participating in the free services offered. This article examines some of the reasons for the low rates of participation, and suggests ideas to improve involvement.Keywords: Domestic violence support groups
