Abstract:
California’s courts have issued many domestic violence decisions in the last several months, primarily in the criminal area. These cases indicate that the courts are taking domestic violence seriously, at least at the appellate levels. However, the one case involving an apparent victim of domestic violence who killed her husband and is now serving 56 years to life, shows that the current trend toward “getting tough on crime” can sometimes backfire against victims, or that women are still judged more harshly. Keywords: People v.
