Abstract: 

This article discusses the Internet-based Domestic Violence Court Preparation Project, the first step in what the authors hope will be a series of innovations to improve access to the legal system for survivors of domestic violence. Developed by the Fund for the City of New York in close partnership with domestic violence advocates, victims, legal services programs and courts in several states, the project takes advantage of the latest Internet technology to provide information and concrete assistance to domestic violence victims, including the on-line preparation of all court papers needed for filing. Operated by staff of domestic violence programs and victim advocates in prosecutors’ offices, with the cooperation of the courts, the system has been in use in three test counties in Georgia since May of 1998, and is now being implemented in New York State.
