Abstract: 

The state of Illinois recently expanded protections for survivors of intimate partner violence. Governor Jay Robert (J.B.) Pritzker signed seven domestic violence-related bills into law in August 2021. This article highlights the importance of these various new laws, which demonstrate significant support for victims of intimate partner violence expanding employment discrimination protections, providing a funding mechanism in divorce proceedings, acknowledging teen dating violence and establishing new commissions on fatality review and forensic testing considering additional legislation to address shortfalls in existing DV laws.
