Abstract: 

Those who work on abuse of elders and adults with disabilities have long recognized that abuse is not a gendered phenomenon: Men as well as women can be abused, and women as well as men can be abusers. Unfortunately, the two major streams of federal funding to meet the needs of abused adults and elders—the Family Violence Prevention Services Act (FVPSA) and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)—have not had this understanding, making it harder for elder and disabled adult abuse professionals to find resources and services for male victims. Developments over the past year have the potential to drastically change that picture.
