Abstract:
In its 2005 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Congress recognized the disproportionate vulnerability people with disabilities have to sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, by creating the Education, Training, and Enhanced Services to End Violence Against and Abuse of Women With Disabilities Grant Program. We asked Amy Loder, OVW’s acting associate director in chargeof the disabilities program, what had been produced under the project that might be useful to VED readers. Ms. Loder singled out the the Illinois Imagines Project, which has developed a series of training modules, tailored to different constituencies (including disabled services, rape crisis centers, parents and guardians, and prevention specialists) that serve as a model for human service agencies and advocates everywhere. This article examines the toolkit created by the Illinois Imagines team. Keywords: Illinois Imagines Project
