Abstract:
This column recounts several cases of elder abuse at the hands of individuals or gangs who move into the elderly person’s home and take over, sometimes also taking over bank accounts and other financial matters of the victim. Because many of these cases are settled out of court, it is difficult to find court opinions on this topic, but they comprise a large number of the elder abuse cases that occur in metropolitan areas. In San Francisco, for example, there are approximately 3,000 reported elder abuse cases under investigation, which is more than twice the number there were in 1999, and this statistic is expected to rise dramatically as baby boomers age. Included is a sidebar, ”Gang-Related Programs and Publications”.Keywords: living on gang turf; gang-related programs
