Abstract:
This article is a review of the book “Domestic Violence: A Handbook of Gender-Inclusive Theory and Treatment”, edited by John Hamel and Tonia L. Nicholls. The author of this review regrets that this “ground-breaking” book may not get the attention it deserves because of publicity surrounding a victim’s service organization’s refusal to cosponsor a national survey to determine the extent to which domestic violence programs are serving populations other than able-bodied, heterosexual women, simply because one of the researchers was among the more than 50 contributors to this book, co-edited by a “men’s righter” (Hamel) at a time when that movement has been the target (wrongly, in the reviewer’s opinion) of some controversy. There are a tremendous number of valuable ideas in this book for those who work with victims of domestic violence, including elder abuse and abuse of adults with disabilities. Keywords: men’s righters; female aggression
