Abstract:
Part one of this two-part series looks at some of the data and resources on these “atypical” victims and perpetrators, mostly coming from the child sexual assault literature. The second installment will examine some of the reasons why this data is not better known or universally replicated in studies of assaults on adult (including elder) men, and what the implications of that are for victims, perpetrators, the professionals who investigate abuse and serve victims, and even society at large. This article also includes two tables: Sample Studies of Female Perpetrators and Sample Studies of Childhood Sexual Abuse. Includes also two full-page sidebars,”Female Perpetrators: Resources for Professionals and Survivors” and “Male Victims; Resources for Professionals and Seniors”Keywords: sexual assault survivors who were perceived as male; male survivors; female perpetrators; resources for professionals and survivors
