Abstract:

Professionals from a wide range of disciplines are involved in detecting and combating elder abuse. Law enforcement, attorneys, social services, health providers, financial institutions, housing agencies, and others encounter elder abuse; each has unique but overlapping ways to respond. Increasingly, communities are developing multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) in which professionals join efforts to combat elder abuse together. MDTs have become a “hallmark” in elder abuse prevention.

Keywords: MDT; multidisciplinary teams as hallmark in elder abuse prevention; psychological issues at core of elder abuse; diminished capacity; differing views between disciplines; role of the psychologist
