Abstract:
The client, a 70-year-old man, is partially paralyzed but cognitively intact. His abuser is a 31-year-old man who was his “roommate,” although you suspect the relationship was more intimate than that term suggests. The client has decided he wants to prosecute his abuser, but he also seems concerned about working with the police. Is there someone who might help you understand what is happening and what to try next? If your client lives in one of the 35 areas where there is an anti-violence program (AVP), expert help is available. ( Editor’s Note: A listing of contact information for the AVPs will appear in a future issue.)Keywords: Anti-Violence Program; AVP; The National Coalition of Antiviolence Programs; NCAVP; LGBT hate crimes; LGBT domestic violence
