Abstract:
One of the biggest challenges of multidisciplinary work is understanding how differently cases can be viewed by professionals with different training and professional needs and expectations. Although it’s impossible to tell how a given law enforcement officer was actually trained, a look at what is one of the most used criminal justice textbooks on sexual assault, Practical Aspects of Rape Investigation , now in its fourth edition, can provide a sense of what some law enforcement professionals may bring to an elder or disabled adult sexual abuse case. (Robert R. Hazelwood and Ann Wolbert Burgess, eds., Practical Aspects of Rape Investigation: A Multidisciplinary Approach (4 th , CRC Press 2009).) This article constitutes an examination of that book, its contents and omissions. Keywords: Practical aspects of Rape Investigation; Hazelwood and Burgess; elderly sexual abuse
