Abstract:

In the past 12 months, FORGE, a Milwaukee-based nonprofit agency serving transgender people that has just two staff members, won three federal grants outright and partnered on and helped write the proposal for a fourth federally funded grant. The total amount won is over $1 million. Not surprisingly, people who never considered going after a federal grant are curious about how it was done and advice for others. This article is a first-person account of the process, with tips.
