Abstract: 

This Washington Report column provides information about the activities of the 111 th Congress, from December12, 2009, through April 20, 2010. The Elder Justice Act (EJA) was enacted and signed into law (P.L. 111-148) by President Obama on March 23, 2010, as part of the health care reform bill (H.R. 3590), known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act .The new law also includes the Patient Safety and Abuse Prevention Act, which authorizes nationwide expansion of the pilot program for national and state background checks on direct patient access employees of long-term care facilities or providers. Also includes status of previously-discussed bills.
