Abstract: 

There have been many ongoing efforts to reduce health-care costs by trimming waste and fraud in the Medicare and Medicaid programs, but the problem is a severe and persistent one, and many agencies are devoted to the task. This article looks at two ongoing fraudfighting efforts: the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) and HHS’ Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT).
