Abstract:
Superstorm Sandy, like Hurricane Katrina (discussed by Robert Mead in “Tragedy in Three Acts: Emergency Preparedness and the St. Rita’s Nursing Home Catastrophe,” 11(1) VED 1 (May/ Jun. 2008)), exposed not only the additional vulnerability of the elderly and disabled in disaster situations, but the inadequacy of the measures that are supposed to protect them. Keywords: Superstorm Sandy; Hurricane Katrina; Knickerbocker Village; Promenade Rehabilitation and Health Care Center; Rockaway; decision against evacuation
